Maui Flowers and Flora Guide

The abundance of beautiful flowers in Maui is amazing. The bright colors and interesting shapes make for great photographs as well. We have gathered pictures of some of the many interesting and beautiful plants that you might find in Hawaii here for your enjoyment.

While it is not hard to find an abundance of beautiful Maui flowers on any of the number of hikes around the island, the best way to see a large number of beautiful Maui flowers at once is to visit one of the numerous public gardens in Maui. Some are free and some will charge a small admission fee.

Wailea Point Seawalk - Wailea - Free
This seawalk runs between the Four Seasons Hotel and the Kea Lani, with entrances at either end or through the hotels. The walk is about a half mile long and features 73 native and polynesian Maui plants and flowers for you to enjoy

Maui Tropical Plantation - Wailuku - Free admission, but tram rides are $9.50 for adults and $3.50 for children.
The Maui Tropical Plantation is made up of over 60 acres growing and displaying a variety of Maui flowers and plants for commercial distribution as well as for display. Some of the Maui flowers and plants you will see here are ornamental gingers, heliconitas, avocados, pineapples and bananas. The plantation is located on Highway 30 just before you get to Wailuku and is open from 9 to 5 daily (808)244-7643.

Tropical Gardens of Maui - Wailuku - $3 per person
Enjoy a self guided tour that will take you by a koi pond and a palm grotto as well as crossing Iao stream. This 4 acre Maui botanical garden features tropical plants from all over the world. This garden is right along the road to Iao valley and can make for a great stop along the way. They are open Monday through Saturday 9AM to 4:30PM (808)244-3085

Kula Botanical Garden - Kula - $5 for Adults and $1 for chidren between 6 and 12
6 acre garden featuring tropical and semi-topical flowers and plants. Examples include protea, bromeliads and orchids with a variety of native Maui flowers and flora. Paths here are wheelchair accessible and the garden is open from 9AM to 4PM daily. You can find this garden on Highway 377 near where it meets Highway 37, (808)878-1715.

Kahanu National Tropical Botanical Garden - Hana - $10 per person
Kahanu Garden is the largest Botanical garden in Maui, boasting 472 acres with plant collections from the Pacific Islands. The self guided tour is about a half mile long and will take an hour to an hour and a half to enjoy the self guided tour. They are open Monday through Friday, 10AM to 2PM (808)248-8912.

Ke'anae Arboretum - Ke'anae - Free
Hike along a one and a half mile trail where many varieties of native and introduced Maui flowers are identified. Part of the trail is through a Maui rainforest so be sure to wear good shoes and insect repellent. This arboretum is located on Hana Highway about a mile from Ke'anae.
