Maui is home to hundreds of different species of birds. This along with the relative ease of getting to many great bird watching locations makes Maui bird watching a very popular vacation hobby. Below are pictures of some of the birds you are likely to see in Maui. This Maui bird guide can only offer a few of the many Maui birds. For more information about Maui bird watching you can visit the Hawaii Audobon Society or the USGS Birds of Hawaii page.

Some of the best spots for Maui bird watching are Kanaha Park in Kahului, Kealia Ponds in Kihei, Hosmer's Grove in Haleakala National Park and the Waikamoi Nature Trail on the Road to Hana. It is also not uncommon to see a large number of beautiful Maui birds right on your hotel or condo grounds.
If you would like a chance to see Maui birds in a pristine setting, every Monday and Thursday at 9 AM (weather permitting), the Haleakala Nature Conservancy leads a three hour hike into the Waikamoi Cloud Forest. This is an excellent opportunity to do some Maui bird watching. The hike is roughly three miles and is mildly strenuous. This area of the park is closed to visitors not with the Nature Conservancy. This area of the park is often rainy and muddy, so be prepared with proper footwear, warm clothing and raingear. The hike is limited to 15 people and reservations are recommended at least one week in advance. To take advantage of this wonderful Maui bird watching opportunity call (808)572-4459.
