Honolua Bay

Honolua Bay Picture

Snorkel Info:

This is a great spot for snorkeling with calm waters. The things to keep in mind are that the water can be pretty deep here, averaging about 40 feet deep. The water is clearer the further out you swim, especially after rains which often wash silt into the water through the streams you will pass to get here. Heading up the left or right hand sides offer the best snorkeling with a lot of great coral and plenty of fish.

Beach Info:

This is not much of a hang out beach. There is no sand and the beach area is made up of large smooth rocks. There are no facilities available here.

How to Get Here:

Head North from Lahaina along Highway 30. You will pass by Kaanapali, Honokawai, Kahana, Napili and Kapalua. Once you have passed by all the resort areas you will begin heading up a curvy hill. The first stop you will notice will be a parking area. This is for Mokuleia also known as Slaughter House there will be a long set of stairs heading down to a sandy beach. This can be a good snorkeling spot but only in the summer or if there is no South swell. Pass on by this area and start looking for cars pulled off to the side of the road. Around here you should be able to see on your left hand side a washed out walkway heading down to a red gate. This is the entrance to Honolua Bay, it is a short hike along a worn trail and you will know when you get there. Be sure to park your car off the road as the police often give tickets up here. Also, do not leave anything valuable in your car.
